In classification lawsuits involving Uber, in the states of Massachusetts and California, it was decided that as long as Uber wanted to remain a business whose drivers work as contractors that they would help to facilitate the creation of a driver association.
This heralded the creation of the Independent Drivers Guild, “a union-like organization that represents Uber drivers”. Uber’s New York general manager, Josh Mohrer, met with the IDG to discuss the drivers’ concerns over rate cuts.
During the slow seasons Uber will lower prices in order to reflect lowered consumer demand. These reductions hurt drivers who then are not able to charge customers as much.
In the meeting with IDG, Josh Mohrer assured drivers that there would be no more price slashes. Uber has contractually agreed to meet with the IDG monthly for the next five years.
